Course Description
This
comprehensive competency-based training program is developed by the National
Skills Development Authority (NSDA) to enhance employability in the
informal healthcare sector. The curriculum is designed to align with industry
requirements, ensuring that graduates possess the exact knowledge, skills, and
attitudes required in the workplace.
The course
spans a total of 360 nominal hours, divided into three critical areas of
competency: Generic, Sector-Specific, and Occupation-Specific skills.
Core Learning Modules
1. Generic
& Sector Competencies (70 Hours)
- Occupational Safety and Health
(OSH):
Identifying workplace hazards, using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
and responding to emergencies.
- Teamwork: Defining roles, contributing
to team discussions, and following effective communication channels.
- Informal Sector Operations: Understanding the
organizational structure and workplace requirements of the informal sector.
- Health Hygiene: Practicing personal grooming
standards and preventing hygiene risks.

Occupation-Specific Competencies (290 Hours)
- Primary Healthcare
Interpretation:
Learning the key components of PHC, including preventive and curative
services and the referral system.
- Food and Nutrition Counseling: Educating clients on balanced
diets, managing malnutrition, and preventing low birth weight.
- Tools and Equipment Operation: Gaining hands-on experience
with stethoscopes, sphygmomanometers, glucometers, and pulse oximeters.
- Health Screening: Mastering the measurement of
vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate) and calculating BMI.
- First Aid and Emergency
Response:
Recognizing signs of potential illness and applying basic life support and
first aid techniques.
